Health insurance concerns can be a complicated one and for the first time ever in North Carolina, The Department of Insurance is offering a toll-free hotline number for consumers to use as an health insurance resource. People wanting to clear up questions about benefits, whether they have coverage or not can call for answers.
Wayne Goodwin, North Carolina Insurance Commissioner says consumers should consider the service, called Smart NC, to be a one-stop shop for dealing with private, group or government health plans.
Health insurance experts are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays at (877) 885-0231 for any questions customers may have about insurance. Common questions such as “Am I paying too much?” and “Do I qualify for Medicaid?” are all welcome.
Goodwin also mentioned, “Say you have a procedure and your carrier denies payment for it, we will then help you set up an external review where our experts review what the procedure was and what the policy was.” In other words, a call to the Smart NC program can also get a ruling from your insurance company overturned.\
